Lois Whiteman is an accredited social worker with forty years of experience. Lois is also a registered Level 2 yoga teacher.
I provide counselling and psychotherapy to clients from all walks of life in Brisbane. My practice and training have equipped me in particular to provide therapeutic support for those who suffer the effects of complex and severe trauma, loss and grief, family and relationship difficulties and cross cultural identity challenges.
As a yoga teacher I specialise in yoga therapy for mental health, somatic pain and discomfort using knowledge of the body’s physiology to provide relief and release of deeply embedded patterns held in the body. Specific yoga practices including deep relaxation are employed to facilitate this.
My experience has taught me that the single most important factor in counselling and yoga success is to create a safe, supportive environment where together we explore the issues at hand. My approach is aimed at women and men who seek counselling for depression, anxiety, low self esteem, work, relationship and family difficulties, loss and grief, difficulties in finding one’s direction in life and trauma.
As a counsellor I have trained in the following areas:
- Trauma informed therapy
- Family Systems Therapy
- Interpersonal and Relationship counselling
- Sandplay Therapy
- Dream work
- Attachment Theory
- Grief and Loss
As a qualified yoga teacher, I have extensive knowledge of the way the mind and body affect each other and I bring this knowledge and skill to my work.
I have extensive experience in insight meditation techniques and the mindfulness practices of yoga. I teach these as daily living tools and draw on them to support the counselling process. These approaches are useful for anyone who is searching for renewed meaning, purpose and direction in life. I also provide supervision and training to professionals who work in these areas.
Fee Structure
My fee is $180 per session. Clients who have limited incomes or who are under financial stress are welcome to discuss a reduced fee.
For counselling clients, I no longer take Mental Health Care Plans which limit the type of service and number of interventions. I prefer instead to arrange directly with you a service to meet your needs.
